Angie Brenner
Creator & Editor-in-Chief
In 2010, Angie quit a job in human resources and took to the wilds of Craigslist for whatever freelance writing gigs she could find. Following years of scrappy assignments and a doomed foray into the world of stage improvisation, she realized how much she needs and reveres the process of editing. This, combined with a lifelong love of comedy and a dream of working in a writer's room, inspired her to create Next Episode Press.
Angie continues to freelance and is the flash fiction editor at The Los Angeles Review. She lives in East San Diego with her husband and son.
Laura Mazzenga
Co-Founder & Acquisitions Editor
Laura moved to San Diego in 2015 to be a yogi-surfer, but ended up falling harder for writing. A graduate of the MFA program at San Diego State, she lives in Pacific Beach with her husband, daughter, and two cats, who inspire much of the chaos, joy, and unpredictability in her work. By day, she works as a publicist writing press releases and telling other people’s stories; by night, she chips away at the novel that stubbornly refuses to write itself.
Nayeli

Be it old school letter-writing to friends and family or endeavoring to create poetry and fiction, Nayeli loves telling a story. At the University of California Santa Cruz and San Diego State University, she worked for local presses on multiple literary projects, including editorials and translation for SDSU Press. Nayeli's other creative outlets include dancing at her favorite San Diego studios, learning new choreography, and taking sunny walks in her beloved neighborhood.
Sara Schulke
Co-Founder & Head of Publishing
Powered by some excess tenacity, Sara jumps in first and thinks later. She moved to California at 17, hair dyed pink and head in the clouds. Hoping for a future in publishing, she dabbled across literary magazines and agencies, but eventually took a break from monetizing her single hobby. Following her MFA and first "real job," Sara expanded her horizons and learned to enjoy her craft again. When she's not working on the latest NEP spreadsheet, she's painting, fostering any number of dogs and cats, or baking.
Sara lives with her endlessly patient husband and three clingy cats in North Park. You can catch her around town drinking local brews or watching the Padres.
